A concept masterplan for the redevelopment of Hong Kong's old Kai Tak airport, vacated in 1997 with the start of operations at the HOK masterplanned Chek Lap Kok International Airport. Celebrating its heritage by converting the existing runway into an archipelago of human-scaled island neighbourhoods with channels cut to increase waterfront open space, improve water quality and aquatic recreational opportunities, whilst enhancing views to the central harbour. A vast waterfront park carries the harbourside character of open vistas deep into the surrounding community, extending real estate value and creating a catalyst for the redevelopment of neighbouring districts from industrial areas into new commercial centres.
